Who Is Ice Spice?
Ice Spice is the professional name of Isis Naija Gaston, an American rapper and songwriter from the Bronx. She became a major name in hip-hop after “Munch (Feelin’ U)” went viral in 2022.
Her music is strongly connected to the New York drill movement, but her appeal has reached well beyond that scene. Her relaxed delivery, memorable lyrics, distinctive ginger hair, and recognizable visual style helped her develop a strong identity early in her career.
Her rise accelerated through collaborations with major artists. She worked with PinkPantheress on “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2,” Nicki Minaj on “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World,” and Taylor Swift on “Karma.” Several of these songs became major Billboard Hot 100 hits.
In 2024, Ice Spice received four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Best Rap Song, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Early Life and Background
Ice Spice was born on January 1, 2000, in the Bronx, New York City. Her birth name is Isis Naija Gaston. She grew up in a family with connections to music and developed an interest in hip-hop at an early age. Her father, Joseph Gaston, was an underground rapper, while her mother, Charina Almanzar, is Dominican.
Music was part of her life long before she became famous. She has spoken about listening to influential rappers while growing up, including Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and members of the Wu-Tang Clan. She also wrote poetry and experimented with freestyle raps while she was still in school.
Ice Spice attended Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers and graduated in 2018. She later enrolled at the State University of New York at Purchase, where she studied communications. She also played volleyball at the college.
Her time in college became especially important because it was where she connected with producer RiotUSA. That relationship helped move her interest in music toward a serious recording career.
Before becoming a full-time artist, she also worked ordinary jobs, including positions at Wendy’s and The Gap. Her early experiences were very different from the celebrity lifestyle she would later experience.
Career Journey
Ice Spice began releasing music professionally around 2021. Her early work helped her gain experience, but the major turning point came with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022.
The song quickly spread across social media, particularly TikTok, and turned Ice Spice into a name that audiences outside New York’s drill scene began to recognize. The attention eventually helped her secure a record deal with 10K Projects and Capitol Records.
She followed the success of “Munch” with songs including “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood.” Her first extended play, Like..?, arrived in January 2023 and reached the Billboard 200.
The year 2023 was especially important. Ice Spice collaborated with PinkPantheress on “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2,” which became a major hit. She then worked with Nicki Minaj on the “Princess Diana” remix and teamed up with Minaj and Aqua for “Barbie World,” part of the Barbie movie soundtrack.
Her collaboration with Taylor Swift on “Karma” expanded her audience even further. The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ice Spice also received significant recognition in 2023. Among her honors was the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, while her growing list of successful collaborations established her as one of the most visible new voices in rap.
In 2024, she released her first studio album, Y2K! The album was named partly in reference to her birth year and her interest in early-2000s culture. It arrived on July 26, 2024, following singles such as “Think U the Shit (Fart),” “Gimmie a Light,” “Phat Butt,” and “Did It First.”
She also embarked on her first headlining world tour in support of the album, giving her a chance to perform for audiences in different countries.
Her career has continued to expand into entertainment beyond music as well. She has appeared in major promotional campaigns and has increasingly become part of mainstream pop culture.
Personal Life
Ice Spice has generally kept parts of her private life away from the public, although her relationships have sometimes attracted substantial attention.
In 2024, there was considerable speculation about her relationship with British rapper Central Cee after the pair worked together on “Did It First.” Ice Spice later said they were close friends rather than a couple and described their relationship as being like “twins.”
Her dating life attracted attention again in 2025 when she became publicly connected with NFL cornerback Sauce Gardner. The two were photographed together and eventually made their relationship more public. Ice Spice later confirmed that they had dated but were no longer together, while saying they remained friends.
Family remains another important part of her public story. She has spoken warmly about her mother and her Bronx upbringing, while her younger brother Joey Gaston has also received media attention for his football and modeling interests.
The Ice Spice Ozempic Rumors
The search term “Ice Spice Ozempic” became popular after fans and social-media users began commenting on perceived changes in her appearance in 2024.
Rather than allowing speculation to stand as fact, Ice Spice addressed the subject herself during an X Spaces conversation in August 2024. She rejected claims that she had been taking Ozempic for weight loss and pointed toward exercise when responding to the speculation.
That distinction is important. There is no verified public evidence establishing that Ice Spice used Ozempic for weight loss. The widely discussed claim came from online speculation, while her own public response disputed it.
Height
Ice Spice is commonly reported as being around 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) tall. Some celebrity-height sources give slightly different measurements, so the figure should be treated as a commonly reported measurement rather than a formally verified statistic.
Her height has occasionally become a topic of fan discussion, but it has little connection to her professional achievements. Her stage presence and recognizable style have played a much larger role in how audiences perceive her.
Estimated Net Worth
Ice Spice’s exact net worth is not publicly confirmed, so published estimates vary. Current entertainment-finance sources place her estimated wealth in the multi-million-dollar range, with figures around $5 million to $8 million appearing in recent reports.
Her income is associated with music, streaming, live performances, touring, collaborations, record agreements, and commercial opportunities. Her rapid rise from an independent emerging rapper to an internationally recognized artist has created several potential income streams.
Because private contracts, taxes, expenses, investments, and royalty arrangements are not fully public, any exact net-worth figure should be viewed as an estimate rather than a confirmed financial statement.
